Interview Preparation

Interview PreparationIt may be a cliché but failure to plan is planning to fail. The horror story of the interview question: ‘what do you know about our organisation?’ being met with a stony silence, is a sure fire way to failure. Whilst it may seem obvious, we will make sure our candidates are well briefed prior to an interview and will recommend that you find out about:

  • The company’s business – take a good look at their website
  • The industry the company operates within – this will show that you are thorough
  • The company’s place in its market and its competitors –this is advanced preparation but can be worth it
  • The recruiter representing you – know your recruiter’s name
  • The interviewer – who are you meeting and is there anything about them on the web?
  • The job itself – you don’t have to be an expert yet but you should know why you are there; read the spec and ask questions of your recruiter
  • Your CV – if you don’t know it parrot fashion then take a copy with you.
  • Your skills – whatever job you are applying for, know your skills and know your limits; don’t exaggerate, you will get caught out
  • Skills v’s Spec – how does your experience match the criteria of the job spec? Why should the company employ you?
  • Your questions– make sure you have 3 good open ended questions (a good example: “What long-term ambitions does the company have?”
